Following Jesus
Our first Brother is Jesus Christ.
St Francis had fallen totally in love with the crucified and risen Son of God whom the Heavenly Father had sent to reveal His love for us. And in loving surrender to the God who loves us Francis chose to live single-mindedly in the manner of his loving Lord – poor, chaste and obedient.
Our public vows of poverty, chastity and obedience enable us to do likewise as consecrated Religious in the Church and Francis gave us this “way of life” approved by Pope Honorius III in 1223:
“The Rule and life of the Friars Minor is this: namely, to observe the Holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ, by living in obedience, without anything of one’s own, and in chastity.”
